Internet Exchange Point (ixp)

As part of the ongoing development of Chad’s digital infrastructure, the creation of the first Internet Exchange Point (IXP) in N’Djamena, DJAMIX, marks a pivotal moment for improving internet performance across the country. The IXP allows Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and telecom operators to interconnect locally, facilitating faster data exchanges, reducing latency, and lowering the costs associated with international transit.

Safitel Chad, a major player in the telecommunications sector, played a central role in making this project a reality by interconnecting with the IXP right from the start. As the first member to connect to DJAMIX, Safitel Chad demonstrated its commitment to the development of local digital infrastructure. Furthermore, the company generously allocated 50 Mbps of bandwidth dedicated to the management of the exchange point, ensuring smooth oversight and optimal functionality of the IXP.

This technical and financial support from Safitel Chad was instrumental in the rapid operationalization of DJAMIX. Thanks to these efforts, internet traffic exchanges between various local players can now be managed without routing through international paths, greatly improving the quality of service for end users in Chad. This initiative reflects Safitel Chad’s commitment to actively contribute to the country’s digital transformation.

In addition to its contribution to the IXP, Safitel Chad continues to provide essential services to ISPs and mobile operators. As an internet transit operator, Safitel Chad is positioned as a key player in the region, offering fast and reliable internet connectivity through its fiber optic network that stretches from Sudan to the capital N’Djamena, and extends to the southern parts of the country. Safitel Chad’s infrastructure also includes a metro network in N’Djamena, allowing for efficient bandwidth distribution.

With these investments in infrastructure and its support of DJAMIX, Safitel Chad reaffirms its leadership role in Chad’s telecommunications sector, while facilitating improved internet access for local populations and businesses.
