We had the honor of receiving a visit from the Minister of Communications, Digital Economy, and Digitalization of the Administration as part of his tour of institutions under his supervision. During this visit, the minister had the opportunity to meet our leadership team, particularly the General Director, who presented him with the progress and challenges we face as the main internet service provider in Chad.
Accompanied by our Technical Director, the minister visited our Network Operations Center (NOC), where our strategic equipment, including routers and other essential infrastructure, is housed to manage the country’s internet. This visit was an opportunity to share crucial information with the minister regarding national connectivity.
We explained to him that Safitel Chad previously had two main internet links: one through Cameroon and the other through Sudan. However, due to the ongoing conflict in Sudan, the latter link has been unavailable for some time. As a result, if the link to Cameroon is cut, the country would experience a total internet outage, causing a national blackout.
This discussion allowed the minister to better understand the fragility of the current infrastructure and the importance of strengthening link redundancy to ensure stable and continuous connectivity for Chad. This visit signifies a strong commitment from the authorities to support Safitel Chad’s efforts in developing telecommunications and digital technologies in the country.
